• Establishing, with the Headteacher, the aims and policies of the school
  • Drawing up, with the Leadership Team, the school development plan
  • Deciding, with the Headteacher, how to spend the schools' annual budget and monitoring expenditure
  • Monitoring how the school delivers the National Curriculum
  • Recruiting the Headteacher
  • Appointing, promoting and supporting other staff
  • Acting as a link between the local community, local authority, church and the school
  • Drawing up action plans and monitoring implementation, following recommendations from school inspectors


The Governing Body is made up of a number of different types of governors and the normal term of office is four years. After four years, any governor who wishes to remain on the Governing Body can offer to stand for a further term of office and (if no-one else has expressed an interest in the position) be re-elected or reconfirmed in his/her position. Elections are held for Parent Governors and all parents/carers are eligible to vote.
